Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
I've been looking for an AR15 or AK47 firearm for a while now. Finally found somebody who has one for me. It's an AR15 from Olympic Arms, $800, includes 2 magazines. Colapsable stock and short barrel.
Make is Olympic Arms. Since I don't know much about firearms I'm wondering if somebody could tell me if this is a good manufacturer and firearm. Thanks for the help. |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
If you must have an AR, then you'd be much better served with something like a Rock River Arms, Bushmaster, or DPMS. Olympic is known for QC problems.
While you're at it, fix that AR to where it doesn't shit where it eats. http://www.adamsarms.net/testimonials.html Or better still, just get a Sig 556. |

Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
You'll get what you pay for. For a few more dollars you could buy yourself a Bushmaster and never look back.
After years of owning both an AR and AK, if I had to sell one, I would sell my Bushmaster. For me it is too much of a hassle cleaning it, and I have about four times more money invested in it - - not including ammo. |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
I would stay away from anything made by Vulcan, Hesse, or Olympic.
Armalite makes good rifles, they were only about 850 before the hysteria, and should be trickling back into the market about now. I f you have problems cleaning an AR15, you must gave great BIG PILE of ammunition to burn. Most people I know cant carry enough ammo to foul an AR15. I suppose if you have a helicopter dropping ammo on your shooting position, you might run a swab through the bore after a couple thousand rounds, definitely want to put a squirt of oil on the bolt carrier before a shoot and after each THOUSAND rounds. |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
I have a Bushmaster AR-15 Modular Carbine, paid $1,200.00 for it. MSRP is $1,800.00 I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Can shoot it all day long without problems, I even left it for a while without cleaning it just to see if it would jam. It didn't but the downside was having to get rid of the gun powder residue that builds up. Which is a total pain in the ass in the tight spots that the AR has. So now I clean it every time after I use it. Just so I don't have to spend 3-4 hours cleaning it, the 1 hour is plenty. I also use Weapon Shield for my lubricant. HANDS DOWN BEST GUN LUBE THERE IS!!!! It keeps build up to a minumum, it doesn't run while it's in storage, and it doesn't dry. I had Hoppes #9 before. Never again, I'm sticking with Weapon Shield. |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
I have been pleased with my Oly.....it has a forged lower and a SUM barrel and is a fantastic shooter Its a older PCR-3 and is a sub MOA gun with factory ammo and sub .3 gun with reloads
For me if i were to buy another Oly i would key on two items.....must have a forged or billet machined lower....and a stainless barrel... In a AR-15 if it doesnt have a Stainless Barrel i want it to have a crome plated barrel bore These are my personal opinions |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
Any ar is a good ar.Some just better quality then others.Oly would be at the bottom of my list. But this price is nice.
Oly for $699 here. Item #: K16 Manufacturer: OLYMPIC ARMS Status: In-Stock http://shop.peachstateguns.com/produ...&productId=324 |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
I'd stay away from the oly. Rock River Arms, and LMT are a better way to go. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Ok, I turned the rifle down. I'll hold out until I can do a little better.

For a couple of hundred dollars more, you can get a good gun. Send me an IM if you are interested because I have some Rock River arms uppers that I am selling on gunbroker but I can make you a good deal here. |
Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
if money is tight try piecing it together a lil at a time....its not rocket science and you have more control over what your putting into your gun

Re: Olympic Arms AR15 OK to buy?
Stag Arms are decent as well. That's what I own.
http://www.stagarms.com/index.php?cPath=13_22 They make ARs for lefties and righties. Their model 3 is their cheapest at $895. I opted for the 2T. The only problem is Stag is completely back logged ATM. Shop around. Read reviews. Check gunbroker and auctionarms often. |
